Unofficial Subtitles

The film explores subtitles as a narrative medium to examine compulsory heterosexuality. As the spoken narrative and the subtitles begin to diverge, the subtitles become a space where a hidden sexuality can exist before it can be spoken aloud. In doing so, the film asks the audience to consider which narratives we instinctively trust — the ones performed clearly in front of us, or the quieter truths that appear in the margins — mirroring how compulsory heterosexuality often operates as the dominant story we are taught to follow.
